Home Made Lemonade

A refreshing cup of home-made lemonade
Until I’ve attempted to make my own lemonade, I didn’t realise how ridiculously simple and cheap it is to make this at home. A pitcher cost less than a dollar to make (to be exact, the pitcher I made cost me about S$0.50). We have lemonade and lemonade-related drinks on the table almost every day now. This drink tastes refreshing especially in our hot tropical climate, is a huge source of vitamin C and it is a wonderful thirst quencher. I decided to make my own lemonade after I discovered a very slight chemical taste in my favourite lemonade stall. Now that I managed to recreate it at home, sans the chemical taste, this is added to our list of fnb we will NOT order outside. No chemicals or artificial syrup, just pure lemon juice, sugar and water. As B said, the more stuff I discovered how to make at home, the less food choices we have outside, lol :P

Ingredients
(makes a small pitcher, about 0.75 litres)
- 1/2 cup (roughly 100g) of caster sugar (you can use normal white sugar too, slightly more)
- 1 cup boiling water
- juice of 1 lemon, remove seeds collected in the juicer with a spoon
- 500ml chilled water
- lemon wedgesDirections
1. Make the sugar syrup by dissolving 1/2 cup of caster sugar with 1 cup of boiling water. Chill the syrup in fridge for an hour or till cold*
2. Combine lemon juice, chilled water, chilled sugar syrup and lemon wedges (for added lemon aroma) in a glass pitcher. Serve immediately.
3. If you are not serving this immediately, put a lid on the pitcher before placing in the fridge so as to prevent vitamins loss. Or serve with ice cubes. Consume within a day if possible.
Notes:
- *If you are not going to consume this right away, then you don’t have to used chilled sugar syrup and water. Just remember to put a lid on the pitcher before refrigeration to prevent loss of vitamin C.
- The above proportions are based on my preference; I like my lemonade to be sour but also slightly sweet. Adjust the recipe to your own taste by playing around with the amount of lemon juice, sugar and water added. For example, if you like very sour lemonade, add juice of 1 1/2 lemons instead of 1 lemon. If you are using meyer lemons which are sweeter than normal lemons, you will need to adjust the amount too.
Once you have the basic lemonade, you can use it to make other exciting drinks! Look out for my upcoming related recipes that I’m making with home-made lemonade:

AHH those mugs are too cute! Love the cheeriness of the photo and homemade lemonade sounds delicious (too bad I’m too lazy to make any.) :P
That has got to be the most adorable set of cups ever! If I had those, I’d definitely make lemonade all the time, just to use it :)
you should have asked me earlier lol.
i knew how to make it when i was 5 years old, and it remained the only thing i can make successfully til 18 :”>
hehe
cute pictures anyway :D :D
I agree, the cup is adorable! But, too darn small for me. So I’ll have two servings, please.
NC, your style is delightful and the lemonade is something I’ll have to make. I haven’t made fresh lemonade since last summer. And you’re right the fresh taste is unlike anything you can buy pre-made.
You can have the whole pitcher, just for you :D
Is that Pooh and Co. I see there, Miss Wiffy? How adorable is that? And how refreshing home-squeezed lemonade is. A delight. You are so right; there is often something “off” with commercial brews. I like to add a 1/2 teaspoon rosewater to mine.
Thanks for your tip Susan! I will try adding some rosewater next time, it sounds good! :-) Yeah isn’t Pooh and Co. adorable?
What a nice set of Winnie the Pooh cup and pitcher. I was wanting to also make a lemonade post but you beat me to it :). I like my lemonade also with some lemon zest. After a few hours the oils from the zest enter the lemonade and it gets so lemony and yummy.
Hope you post your lemonade recipe too! It’d be interesting to learn different ways of making it :-)
Too cute. ‘Nuff said ;)
Awwww….. the presentation of the home made lemonade is so cute!
The jug and the cup is so cute! Would love a cup right now, it’s so hot!
Now, I want to make lemonade today! It’s perfect for summer.

I have to agree – the recipe is so simple and it looks like something that I could tackle myself! – LOL! Currently lemons are 3 for a dollar at my local supermarket! May have to visit some farmers markets too.
Home-made lemonade is the best! This looks so bright and refreshing. Love the Pooh cups!!!
Lemonade looks good, but I am loving the Pooh cups. Cute.
Where did you buy that cup from?

I bought it at the taka toys fair, Singapore. Only $5 for the set – consists of 1 pitcher and 4 cups. The sale ends on 10 august.
