Coca-Cola Chicken Wings 可乐鸡翅

Chicken Wings Braised in Coca-Cola
We are all familiar with Coca-Cola (Coke) as a drink but do you know it can be used in cooking too? In this classic Chinese recipe, Coke is used as the base of the simmering sauce, which not only tenderises but also cameralises the chicken wings. The result is delicious, finger-licking good chicken wings with a sweet & sticky glaze. This is a super easy recipe with few ingredients and steps. I used to drink 1 can of Coke a day in my teens but nowadays I hardly touch any sweet drinks now as I became conscious about sugar intake. Sneaking in Coke into home cooking somehow feels less guilty than drinking it (even if it’s not true) :P

I like this! Simple and yummy :D I was thinking, can I use rootbeer instead of Coke?
yes, you definitely can
I love chicken wing and this looks very delicious with the thick sauce :)
Believe me or not, I was just thinking of trying to make Cola chicken wings, I am curious how it would taste. I don’t have to search elsewhere for a recipe. Thanks for sharing. Will make soon : )
this is such a fun recipe! You have just given me an idea of what to cook this long weekend :)
I have a book on this dish too and have also seen a few bloggers trying this. It looks very good but am curious to know its taste. May just give this a try one day.
I cook this before but forget about it. Now you reminded me. Going to get a can of coke today. :)
i’ve done similarly with other parts of the chicken instead of the wings because i don’t buy chicken wings.
This looks so mouth-watering.
OMG I can’t wait to get home and try this! My mum makes the best marinated chicken and I will have to show her this recipe. Thanks so much for sharing!
These sound SO good wiffy!! And I just had dinner and am full but your recipe is making me drool haha! By the looks of the outer glaze, it seems it would be very moist, yeah? Such a creative idea to use the cola. Wish I could convince my mom to try this one out. :)
Mid-joint (plus the wing tip) is my favorite part of the chicken wing, to be specific. So I definitely love this. I remember trying BBQ wings marinated with Coke and five-spice powder when I was much younger and it was finger-licking good. Never tried cooking that at home though. This recipe looks easy. Shall try it when I get the big cooking mojo back.
I’m almost done wif confinement mth n can’t wait to cook tis! It looks yummy n convenient to make – perfect for me, now tt I’ve got to handle 2 kids! ;)
Looks absolutely yummy! I am going to give it a go !!
Mmmmmm….these wings look so glossy, juicy and delicious! I have yet to use Coke in cooking, but these look too good to pass up on, so I will bookmark this recipe for SOON! :)
Interesting. This sounds good and I like that it uses Cola. My mom sometimes adds Sprite when making marinated soy sauce chicken, but we’ve never tried coke.
Have head of using coca cola before. Looking at these wings…so juicy and caramelized…
Thank you so much for sharing this simple and delicious recipe. I did try out last weekend, is so delicious. Yum!Yum! I will cook more coca-cola chicken wing, because i bought the 1.25ml one… hahaha.. :)
glad you like it! :)
Would it change the recipe drastically if I only used one type of soy sauce (dark)?
sorry for the late reply. Yes can use one type if that’s all you have, add salt to taste if needed.
Hi,
I tried it but after cooking for more than 15mins I still don’t get he desire results. My gravy is still watery and doesn’t turn sticky. Anything went wrong?
Hi did you measure the coca-cola? it’s 200ml, not the whole can. and water also 200ml. simmer between 15-20 minutes, or until reduced.
tried this recipe tonite. like that it needed only a few basic seasonings, and was easy, but the wings turned out yummy. combining two of my fav food. lol. definitely will make this again. thanks for the recipe.
Thank you for this wonderfully easy yet yummy recipe! Tried it last week and we finished 8 chicken wings within mins! Like to check if we can add rice wine to the recipe? Thanks!
yup, you can add rice wine if you like to. Glad you like it!
Tried adding rice wine but I don’t think it is that nice.. it adds a bitter aftertaste which spoils the sweetness. :P
At first I thought I put too much cola and water, but once the water evaporates with the boiling of the sauce, it starts to be thicken. Hah, for ppl like myself, who took the coke directly from the fridge, it will take a lot longer… since I have to wait for the sauce to boil. So lucky I found this site. It will be my saving grace when I move to Aussie without my parents’ home cooking =P
thanks, glad it’s a success. yes it does seem a lot of sauce at first, but it will nicely cameralised and thicken as the sauce simmers.
I tried this yesterday and it was a blast! Awesome recipe and I am totally hooked on this! Thanks!
Hi,
May I know if it’s possible to use chicken fillets instead of the wings / drumsticks?
Thank you!
Hi, it is highly recommended to cook this with skin/bone on type of cut, but you can substitute with chicken fillet if you like.
Can we bake the chicken wings?
I’ve not tried, but yes you can bake them.
Hi Wiffy,
I put 100ml water and more dark soya sauce as it tasted bland and looked light even after simmering for 15 min. The longer it simmers, say at least 30min, the better it tastes.
Hi Pauline, did you use the cooking/baking measurement spoons for tsp/tbsp not the silver spoons we use as cutlery? Yes, feel free to adjust the ingredients/simmering time to suit your preference.
Yes, I used measuring spoon. My improvised method worked. It was yummy! Thanks!
Did i need to put salt and garlic on it,,,?
no need salt as the soy sauces are salty. Garlic is up to you, you can add it if you like.
Hi wiffy! Did you simmer with lid or without?
Hi Lily, I simmer with lid on.
Thank you for the amazing recipe!! It was awesome and easy to cook it…at first i was sceptical about the recipe but after i try it it was fabulous!!!! Full stars i would award u with the great recipe!! much love from SINGAPORE!!!
