Blueberry Milkshake
A sweet delight – Blueberry milkshake topped with fresh blueberries and marshmallows

The US blueberries are now in season and that’s good news for us too in Singapore because we get to enjoy cheaper than usual blueberry prices as well. NTUC just had a sale whereby they were selling two punnets for only S$4.70! So naturally I grabbed a few punnets. This is one of the first things I whipped up with the fresh blueberries – an easy milkshake. Blueberries are usually slightly sour (at least those that I’ve bought so far), so blending it with sweet ice cream removes the sourness to create a sweet and refreshing taste. This is quite filling and I even had it as a meal on its own.

Blueberries are usually expensive in Singapore too. But during the blueberries season the prices are a little more reasonable. Maybe you should check out if the prices have come down during this period :-)

That looks really good! Unfortunately blueberries here are not too cheap. There is one place in my area which sells them at a good price, but then the blueberries are not fresh at all.

I never thought about putting marshmallows in a milkshake! It looks really good with it.

I thought you’re based in the States? Yeah, I notice that off-season berries are not only expensive, they aren’t that fresh. Thank you for your kind words :)

You can use frozen blueberries for this too but I think in Singapore, it is not cheap either. Aiya…any berries, cherries in Singapore are not cheap. Only tropical fruits such as papaya is cheap and easily avail here and not in US. In US, I miss papaya a lot. Heee heeee

Reply

42 wiffy June 21, 2009 at 9:27 am

Yesss… off season, frozen bbs can sometimes be as exp as the fresh ones in season! Yep, our berries are too expensive. We can only take comfort for cheapy mangoes and papayas :P

Oh I love berry milkshakes – I’ve also had a lot of skimmed milk shakes when I had that weird idea of losing a few kilos some years ago :) They were my only substitute for ice-cream! But now I’d certainly prefer your version, with ice cream :) beautiful pictures and I love how you served it with marshmallows!
