Thai Basil Pork

To make an authentic Thai basil chicken/pork/beef, you definitely need Thai holy basil (pictured below) which is rare here compared to other types of basil. I started 2017 staying at a hostel in Bugis  – with no access to my kitchen or camera for a week (sobs). But the good thing was, I was walking distance from Thai Supermarket at Golden Mile Complex, and I made sure to buy holy basil before I go home to make this Thai Basil Pork (Pad Kra Pao Gai).

The unique mild and pleasant medicinal taste  of holy basil is signature in this classic Thai dish. While an equal replacement is impossible, you can substitute holy basil with any type of basil (and along with a bit of mint if you have).

  1. I miss Thai basil. Don’t see them over here…this looks light, yet very flavoursome and tasty.

  2. Looks very delicious! I want the entire set with rice, basil pork, egg and cucumber. Even your cucumber is carved so meticulously. ;p

No access to kitchen during staycation is good right? I don’t miss my kitchen when I am on vacation. Getting lazier, even mentally. Oops :(

Happy 2017 to you and your family. Good health to all!

    • Oh the cucumber was prepped with a zigzag peeler, not carved by hand ;)

I miss the kitchen much when I don’t have access to it (lol). HNY!

  3. Hi! Just to check where can I get the thai holy basil leaves in SG?

  4. Trying this tomorrow! fingers crossed, x from another noob cook :P
