Cheaters’ Microwaved Potatoes

Do you think these potatoes can be passed off as roasted or baked ones? Maybe, maybe not :P

This is my cheaters’, no pride way of preparing potatoes when I am pressed for time. I think the only reason I can get away with posting such a sloppy recipe is because I am a noob cook ;p I had it as a side dish with my grilled salmon and also with meatballs (see below). I didn’t had a lot of time to cook, so this is a good alternative to spending 40 minutes to roast them in the oven. Try this when you don’t have much time! ;p

I first seasoned the cut potatoes with salt, pepper and dried parsley (a dash of chilli or curry powder if you want spicy), sandwich a few thin slices of butter among the potatoes, then microwaved them on high for about 8 minutes or more (depends on the heat of your microwave), or until they are soft. Remember to use a spoon to coat the potato pieces evenly in the butter after microwaving.

Note: For 250g of potatoes, I used approximately 1/4 tsp of salt, pepper and dried parsley. Don’t forget the butter, or else the potatoes will be really dry after microwaving. It also adds flavour to the potatoes.

  1. Hi Min, you can buy bottled dried parsley at supermarkets (the herbs n spices area where they sell brands like mccomicks, master foods). btw you can also use fresh parsley if you have. Just chop the leaves finely, and you can more than double the amt if using fresh parsley.

  2. Too bad, I don’t have a microwave. Roasting them takes much longer. I should start roasting again. :P

  3. Heh, I hear you about being pressed for time. And roast potatoes do take a long time in the oven. The roasted caramelised taste is yummy though… But microwave is so much quicker! I had a housemat who always cooked her potatoes in the oven because it is so much quicker (she is always in a hurry). I prefer to tossed the hot potatoes in butter after cooking, instead of in the microwave itself.

  5. Thanks for the tip. I buy potatoes but rarely cook them because of the time factor. With the microwave, maybe they’ll make more of an appearance.

    And they look pretty good!

  7. Hey, that’s what I do too, when pressed for time, I use my MW to “roast” these potatoes ;-)

  8. I tried your recipe and the result was great. All well cooked within 8 mins!! I replaced the butter with olive oil though and it turned out fine too.

  9. Great time saver! This is great for prepping potatoes to go into other dishes like curry to lessen the cook time. Eating the curry I made with zapped potatoes right now :)
