Before I post a “real recipe “tomorrow, here’s a fun review for my most recent instant noodles discovery. It is the A1 brand of abalone instant noodles. Since it was the first time I heard of real abalones in instant noodles, curiosity got the better of me. I  looked high and low for it and finally bought it from Bukit Merah NTUC, even though I stayed in the East. That was a few months back. Currently, they are much more readily sold and I saw it in my neighbourhood NTUC, haha. Read on to find out our verdict.

These are mainly what you are paying for – two tiny abalones. I think the photos make them appear much bigger than they are in real life. They are like the size of the old Singapore $1 coin? The abalones are contained in a tin foil packaging with gravy broth.

Verdict

At S$3.35, it’s really expensive for one packet of instant noodles, since you can eat a yummy and complete one-dish meal at a hawker center for S$3. So my expectations were really high. The two abalones, which I presumed carried the bulk of the price tag, were tiny and not really good in my humble opinion – better off with canned pacific clams. But the herbal seasoning was excellent and I really liked that. The price will deter me from buying again, but if they ever come out with an affordable version of the instant noodles with the herbal seasoning powder sans abalones, it will become a staple in my pantry.

  1. Size of $1 coin? Very tiny leh…are the abalones even real? :O My next to-buy-to-try list when in Sg as you said the herbal seasoning is good.
Last trip, I bought the white curry noodles but it is just shoved one side in my pantry right now- have not even tried. I am so backward !!!!

    • Yes tiny! According to the SO, they are real (not sure how he concluded that, though) XD Me too, many instant noodles in the pantry cupboard to try :)

  2. Hold up the abalones with chopsticks so we can see the scale too! :)

  3. Nice to have premium instant noodles once in a while!

  4. Hi
do you use the gravy broth that came together with the abalone in the vacumm pack?

  5. I love the A1 Instant Abalone Noodles, not so much for the Abalone.  Then they are tiny, it comes with two abalone to a pack.  I love the herbal seasoning to the soup broth.
Have they come out with the powder in any other instant noodle packages?
