in Bangkok, Food Reviews

Novelty find in Bangkok – Japanese fast food called R Burger, touted as a “real Japanese healthy burger”. I didn’t see this when I visited Roppongi, Tokyo so it’s real nice to find it in Bangkok =p

On its brochure it listed that the hamburger contains 1000mg marine collagen, fresh vegetables and natural salt. Is that why it is healthy?

Or maybe it’s the buns that make it healthier. Instead of regular burger buns, they use baos (or some called paos) aka asian buns/Chinese style steamed buns. Bao lovers rejoice!

The burgers are priced between 75 baht (S$3.30, US$2.20) to 95 baht.

Since it’s a Japanese import, there are Japanese favours of course (they have maguro wasabi mayonnaise burger, chicken ume burger) … overall it also has quite a “Chinese” feel to me, because I associate bao with “kong bak pau” 扣肉包 (aka Chinese braised pork bun) =p They also have Vietnamese wraps which I didn’t try but looks damn good (regret) ;p

Sounds Good, Sounds Funny
Sounds Good … Sounds Funny … Looks Good

I can see it … so why does it sound good? I thought it should look good =x

This packaging is distinctively Japanese – attractive … with weird wordings (in a cute way).

In case you can’t read the words … the front portion reads:

This is one of our special recommendations of this shop,
Our mission is to make our customer
happy with our food and say “What a so tasty!!”

Tofu Nuggets and Fries

Inside the packaging with the weird, cute Jappy words are potato wedges (back) and tofu nuggets (front). Doesn’t tofu nuggets sound much healthier than chicken nuggets?

Drinks (alas, we wasted the goodness of the healthy meal with fizzy sweet drinks) ;p

They looked like the ones I experimented with char siu pork. That’s too funny. Of course, nothing beats good ol’ fashioned american burger with real buns.

So interesting, thanks for sharing. Tofu nuggets do sound very healthy. So is it basically deep-fried tofu?

Holy! This will be on my ‘must try’ list should I visit Bangkok in time to come. I wonder how the burger will taste like… The bun is sweet and the meat is salty. What a fusion of taste. 8O

Cool, thanks for the great recommendations! 8)

That burger looks so good as it reminds me of a similar sandwich I had but with braised pork belly in the middle. :D I know it’s not healthy but did they sell one like that?!
