Grow Your Own Round Up #16 (1-15 Sep 08) – A Preview of the Menu

Did the little collage above leave you wanting … for more? ;)

I’m pleased to put together the round up of the first food blog event I’m hosting – Grow Your Own – “a blogging event that celebrates the dishes we make using our homegrown products”. Thank you Andrea, for giving me an opportunity to host this edition, and thank you to everyone who submitted their dishes made from the freshest, most wholesome home grown ingredients.

15 unique dishes from 5 different countries, with a great variety of organic goodness – ranging from tomatoes, parsley, chives, green onions, basil, lemon verbana, bell peppers, torch ginger plant to mint!! Are we spoiled or what? I hope you enjoyed reading the the round up as much as I enjoyed putting them together (& drooling over them). If I had accidentally made any mistakes or left out your entry, please leave me a comment to let me know.

Now let’s start with the feast! 8)

(Note: Entries are featured in the order they were received)

andrea_San_Marzano_tomato_sauce_peppers
What better way to start, than with an entry from GYO’s awesome creator herself, Andrea (Virginia, United States) who delights us with a mouthwatering San Marzano with Peppers Pasta Sauce made from her garden’s San Marzano tomatoes and bell peppers.

slowroastedtomatoes
Next, Anna of Life’s Too Short For Mediocre Chocolate (San Diego, United States) shows us one of the loveliest ways to use tomatoes – by slow roasting them, and using them on pizza. MMmmm…

chez_salad_dessert
Denise of Chez Us (San Francisco, United States) ushers in summer with a delicious Almond Chutney Chicken Lettuce Roll-ups and a lovely baked fruity dessert made with basil and lemon verbana from the garden.

tomato_sauce
What’s the best brand of tomato sauce in the world? The home brand, made with home grown tomatoes, of course ^o^ Rachel of The Crispy Cook (New York, United States) shows us how.

sarah_Farm_Fresh_logo_col
I wish I could swop places with Sarah of What Smells So Good (Ontario, Canada), for she has an endless access to the freshest produce due to her proximity to farms and farmers markets. She whips up a delightful dish of Garden Eggs in Spuds using home grown red peppers, chives and tomatoes.

tomato-jam-ceviche
Kim of Live :: Love :: Laugh :: Eat! (Virginia, United States) makes tomato jam for the first time using her homegrown heirloom and roma tomatoes and it looks perfect! And wait, because Kim’s garden is doing so well, she has cooked not one, but two dishes for GYO. Also check out the lovely Shrimp Ceviche she made using red pimento and jalapeno peppers growing in her flourishing garden.

asam_laksa

My dear blogging friend, SueSue the fabulous Cooking Momster (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) makes the famous Penang dish, Asam Laksa with bunga kantan (Torch Ginger Plant) and fresh mint leaves from the garden. I must say that this is the best Asam Laksa I have seen! ;D

lemongrass_ginger_tea

My other lovely blogging friend, Ning of Heart and Hearth (Manila, Phillippines) makes a refreshing & photogenic lemongrass and ginger iced tea. Don’t miss her well written and informative reads about lemongrass and ginger when you’re there!

magical_shroom_soup
Kaykat of Cooking from A to Z (Washington, United States) adds magical touches to her ‘Shroom Soup with Curd Cheese by using chives and parsley from her veggie patch. Totally awesome.

spicybeanpastefish
I’m so happy that my wonderful blogging friend, Lesley of Beachlover’s Kitchen (New York, United States), can join in the fun with her mouthwatering Pan-fried Whole Fish with Spicy Taucu (bean paste sauce), made with beautiful red peppers from her garden.

papaya-salad
Gay of A Scientist in the Kitchen (Philippines), makes a delightful papaya (Somtam) salad using papaya, long beans and Thai chili growing in the backyard.

Chicken-Bowtie-Pasta-Salad
Reeni of Cinnamon Spice & Everything Nice (New York, United States) says “goodbye summer, hello autumn”, by making a cute and cheery looking Chicken Bowtie Pasta Salad.

tomatostrata
Kim of The Daily WD (Colorado, United States) uses her homegrown cherry tomatoes which are the size of  round plum tomatoes, to make this fantastic tomato strata (savory bread pudding).

Stir-fry-chicken-with-fermented-black-beans-and-bell-peppers
Last but no least, I (Singapore) made an easy Chinese dish, Stir fry chicken with fermented black beans and bell peppers, using my home grown bell peppers.

Bon Apetite everyone! Hope you enjoy the delicious food. :-)

The next GYO host is Denise from Chez Us … please visit their site for more details on how to participate.

Well NC, my attempts to access your site all last week were futile. But I’m glad things are back to normal with my bedrock server.
Anyway, I love everyone’s entries. Absolutely fresh and delicious looking.

Well done, Wiffy! Sorry I couldn’t join in. The pickings in my mom’s garden (which I have helped tend) are growing scare, just a few okra and tomatoes left now. The squirrels had a field day…every day. : {
