Grow Your Own: Bell Peppers
September 5, 2008 – 2:48 pm by wiffyOh, how I luuurrrvvveeee bell peppers (aka capsicums) - especially big, red, organic ones
Don’t they make the loveliest food porn models?
These are the bell peppers which I harvested together with my eggplants in July.
Do you know?
… that if your bell peppers are the red variant kind, you can get different colours of bell peppers by harvesting them at different times? The bell peppers will grow from green to yellow to red. Personally I like to harvest them when they are yellow or red ![]()

Bell Peppers, turning from yellow to red… can you see some remains of green, and the onset of red from the yellow base?
Fortunately I took these photos back then, because sadly, my plants aren’t looking that great currently, sigh >o<
So anyway, pssstt… wanna find out what I wokked with these home-grown bell peppers? Stay tuned for the recipe, coming up tomorrow! =)

Those are lovely! I have a difficult time with vegetable gardening due to the heat and lack of rain here in Texas. I keep trying though!

Hey, nice capsicum! I am jealous, as bell peppers don’t seem to do so well in my yard. You did yours out on your balcony?

Wow, these are beautiful! I’m growing green bells this year; next year I may give red a try. If they turn out half as nice as yours, I’ll be happy!

Wow, those are some nice looking peppers! We have a fairly short growing season here, and I’ve never had much luck with the peppers. Yours were wonderful models though.

Yr bell pepper looks fat and juicy. Home grown food is the best as u can ensure that it is organic. Is it difficult to grow yr own vege?

Sweet! That’s my verification word today and I think it totally applies to these pictures.
I bought a six-pack of heirloom bell peppers one year and grew green, red, orange, white, and purple bell peppers. They were so yummy and so pretty! No purple peppers in this picture, but weren’t they so pretty? Look.

Wiffy,
What a great idea!!
Unfortunately at the moment I don’t grow anything except basil I bought ready in a pot… but I’m waiting for my banana tree to come out…. 3 more weeks to go and I should see something above the ground… hopefully
I still did not make my own emoticons and I’m still jealous of yours but the reason is that I’m doing the whole Wordpress theme instead of the existing one
Enjoy your evening! M.

Hello! Oh, I love peppers!! I am terrible in anything plant/garden (cactus would die on me!!) but been thinking about give it another shot. Peppers is high in my list. But for now, I just do little bitty herbs - and see if they’ll survive.

1) I am so inspired to also grow my own plants.
Could you also forward me the contact details of the reliable source that I can buy from?
2) As I have no prior knowledge on gardening, do they have classes?
3) What are the best plants/herbs to grow indoors?
Many Thanks
JK
