Steamboat

Happy 2008!

Instead of the glamorous turkey & ham, we had steamboat on Xmas Eve. It almost feel like CNY instead of Xmas, keke. Might as well because I won’t be in SG during the entire CNY period… so we’ll be doing a few more steamboats leading up to CNY.

I made herbal chicken soup (using chicken & various Chinese herbs) in this pic and it tastes nice. My friend said that even plain hot water can be used for the soup base, coz the soup will be naturally be sweet after u add lots of carrot and sweet corn, and simmering the rest of the ingredients in the water to cook. I have also tried using dashi soup stock when I just want a quick soup base but the starting part tastes quite sea-waterish (but it does become sweet later after cooking for a while).

  3. I love hot pot! My mom has a nice fancy electric hot pot thing that she just bought for me. Keeps the soup hot without using the standard butane powered fire

  4. In Singapore, I need to turn on the air-conditioning when I eat steamboat. :O
Yes. You are right. After adding in all the ingredients, the soup base will be so rich even if started from plain hot water.
